Los Angeles:Oscar-winning actress Eva Marie Saint, renowned for her roles in On the Waterfront and North by Northwest, passed away at her Los Angeles home at the age of 102 due to natural causes, as confirmed by her representative, Jeff Sanderson.
According to Anadolu Agency, Saint achieved prominence with her film debut in Elia Kazan's 1954 crime drama On the Waterfront, where she starred opposite Marlon Brando as Edie Doyle. Her performance earned her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, while Brando received his first Oscar for Best Actor.
Saint further cemented her legacy in Hollywood with her role as Eve Kendall in Alfred Hitchcock's 1959 spy thriller North by Northwest, alongside Cary Grant. This role remains one of her most acclaimed performances.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1924, Saint's career began in radio and television. She gained attention for her performance in Horton Foote's The Trip to Bountiful on Broadway in 1953, which led to her casting in On the Waterfront. Her filmography includes notable titles such as A Hatful of Rain, Exodus, Grand Prix, The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming, and The Stalking Moon.
