Brussels: The EU agreed on Monday to extend its existing sanctions on Russia, the bloc's foreign policy chief said. "EU Foreign Ministers just agreed to extend again the sanctions on Russia," Kaja Kallas announced on X. "This will continue to deprive Moscow of revenues to finance its war (on Kyiv)." She further emphasized that "Russia needs to pay for the damage they are causing."

According to Anadolu Agency, the 27-member union renews the sanctions every six months and requires unanimity to do so. This decision marks the EU's ongoing commitment to applying economic pressure on Russia amidst its ongoing conflict with Ukraine.

Last month, the EU adopted its 15th package of sanctions against Russia since the conflict began in February 2022. These sanctions are part of a broader strategy to hold Russia accountable for its actions and to deter further aggression by impacting its economic capabilities.
