Brussels: EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas on Thursday warned that Israeli actions are putting the US-Iran ceasefire under “severe strain.” “The Iran truce should extend to Lebanon,” Kallas stated on US social media company X.

According to Anadolu Agency, Kallas expressed concerns over Hezbollah’s involvement in the conflict, arguing that while Hezbollah has dragged Lebanon into the war, “Israel’s right to defend itself does not justify inflicting such massive destruction.” She highlighted the importance of Hezbollah disarming, as previously agreed, and reiterated the EU’s support for Lebanon’s efforts to achieve this disarmament.

The recent Israeli attacks on Lebanon followed the announcement of a two-week truce between Iran and the US on Tuesday. This ceasefire aims to facilitate a final agreement to end the ongoing war initiated by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28, which has resulted in thousands of casualties and injuries.
