Europe’s Stability at Risk Without Turkey, Says Erdogan

Istanbul: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized that Europe's structural integrity would be compromised if Turkey is not included in its rightful place within the continent's framework. He stated that without Turkey, Europe remains incomplete and vulnerable in managing crises.

According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan's remarks came in a message celebrating Europe Day. He referenced the Schuman Declaration, which set the stage for European integration, as a symbol of the European Union and its commitment to a future built on peace, cooperation, and mutual respect. Erdogan highlighted that the EU's founding principles, established 76 years ago, are currently being tested by various global crises such as wars, political instability, and economic challenges.

Erdogan argued that these global issues necessitate more inclusive and unifying EU policies, asserting that Turkey is an essential and indispensable part of this process as a candidate country. He reiterated Turkey's commitment to strengthening relations with the EU on a win-win basis, grounded in mutual obligations and the aim of full membership. Erdogan expressed expectations that the EU will reciprocate this commitment with genuine intent.

Erdogan further stated that the EU's necessity for Turkey surpasses Turkey's need for the bloc, a requirement he believes will only grow in the future. He expressed hope that Europe Day would usher in peace, prosperity, and solidarity across the region, extending his best wishes to both European and Turkish citizens.
