Ankara: Explosions echoed across Erbil as air defense systems intercepted five suicide drones over the northern Iraqi city. According to Anadolu Agency, local media reported that the interception led to multiple loud explosions, capturing the attention of residents and officials alike.
The Erbil-based Kurdistan24 news agency confirmed that air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed the drones, which were reportedly targeting the city. This incident follows a similar event from the previous day when three suicide drones were intercepted over Erbil.
The drone attacks are part of a series of hostilities linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the US, and Israel. Since the outbreak of this conflict, Tehran has been launching missile and drone attacks targeting Erbil and Sulaymaniyah in northern Iraq.
Iran's attacks have focused on camps of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups and key locations such as the US military base and consulate in Erbil.
