Helsinki: Finland announced on Wednesday its support for France's declaration promoting a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, signaling the future recognition of Palestine as part of a broader peace framework.

According to Anadolu Agency, Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen expressed this commitment on X, emphasizing the necessity of peace in the Middle East to alleviate human suffering. Valtonen highlighted that while achieving peace is challenging, it remains a feasible goal with significant effort.

Valtonen referenced recent progress at the UN Conference on Palestine in New York, noting that small yet crucial steps are being made towards a resolution. The joint declaration, which Finland now supports, advocates for a two-state solution, an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The declaration also underscores the importance of the Palestinian Authority's commitment to demilitarization and the disarmament of Hamas. Valtonen stressed that a two-state solution is vital not only for Palestine's future but also for Israel's security.

Furthermore, Valtonen called for countries that have not normalized relations with Israel to do so and to help integrate Israel into regional security frameworks. She outlined plans for Gaza's future, including reconstruction, disarmament of Hamas, and removing Hamas from Palestine's political landscape.

Valtonen acknowledged the support of Arab countries such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt in advocating for Hamas' disarmament and removal from Gaza. She affirmed that recognizing Palestine as a state is a critical step towards achieving a two-state solution, but emphasized that Finland would only recognize Palestine when it aligns with regional stability and security interests.

Valtonen concluded by stating that any recognition must satisfy the security needs of both Israelis and Palestinians, while also supporting Palestine's aspirations for statehood and self-determination.
