Four Killed in Suwayda Shooting Incident

Suwayda: Four people were killed in a shooting incident in Suwayda province in southern Syria. Authorities have announced the arrest of a suspect and urged residents to exercise restraint to prevent any escalation.

According to Anadolu Agency, the incident occurred in the al-Matouneh area of Suwayda countryside. Hussam al-Tahhan, Suwayda's internal security commander, stated that the crime resulted in the death of four residents and the serious injury of a fifth person. The Interior Ministry released al-Tahhan's statement on Telegram, revealing that a suspect, who is a member of the Internal Security Directorate, was arrested following preliminary investigations and with the help of a survivor.

Al-Tahhan emphasized that any violation against citizens is unacceptable, and no tolerance will be shown for acts threatening residents' security. He called on the province's residents to remain calm and trust the ongoing measures, assuring that justice will be served to prevent future incidents.

Suwayda has experienced a ceasefire since July following clashes between Druze factions and Bedouin tribes, which resulted in numerous casualties. Although the truce has been violated by al-Hijri-linked groups, the government remains committed to facilitating civilian evacuations and humanitarian aid.
