Ankara: Trkiye has strongly condemned a deadly attack on displaced civilians in Sudan's North Kordofan state, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives when the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeted a vehicle carrying civilians. In a written statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry highlighted the severe impact of the attack, which involved a vehicle transporting people forced to flee their homes due to ongoing conflict.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Turkish Foreign Ministry described the incident as a significant violation of international humanitarian law, emphasizing the importance of protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure during armed conflicts. The ministry's statement underscored Ankara's stance that civilians must not be targeted under any circumstances and called for urgent measures to ensure their safety.

The statement further reiterated Trkiye's demand for the protection of civilians and the unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance, stressing the necessity of securing safe passage for affected individuals. The ministry's condemnation aligns with reports from Sudanese authorities that accused the RSF of a drone attack on a World Food Programme aid convoy in North Kordofan, leading to casualties and destruction of relief supplies.

Sudanese authorities have reported the death of 24 civilians and injuries to others, including vulnerable groups, following the RSF's assault on a vehicle in Al-Rahad, North Kordofan. This incident is part of a broader conflict between the Sudanese army and RSF that began in April 2023, resulting in widespread displacement and a severe humanitarian crisis.

The RSF controls significant territories in western Sudan, while the army maintains control over much of the country, including the capital, Khartoum. The ongoing conflict has devastated the region, prompting calls from the international community for peace and stability.
