Ankara: France on Wednesday called on Israel to exercise the 'greatest restraint' in its military operations in the northern West Bank, saying that intensified raids in the Jenin, Tulkarem, and Tubas refugee camps have caused civilian casualties and mass displacement.
According to Anadolu Agency, the French Foreign Ministry issued a statement urging Israeli authorities to adhere to international humanitarian law and protect civilian populations. The ministry underscored the displacement of 40,000 Palestinians due to Israeli military actions.
The statement further emphasized that forced displacement violates international law and urged Israeli authorities to facilitate the swift return of displaced civilians to their homes.
Palestinian officials reported that since January 21, Israeli military operations in the northern West Bank have resulted in over 61 Palestinian deaths and the displacement of thousands.
Tensions remain high in the occupied West Bank, with the Health Ministry reporting at least 923 Palestinian deaths and nearly 7,000 injuries since the onset of the Gaza war on October 7, 2023, due to actions by the Israeli army and illegal settlers.
