US Congressman Proposes $250 Bill Featuring Donald Trump

Washington: A member of the US Congress from Donald Trump's party has introduced a proposal to create a $250 bill featuring a portrait of the former president. Joe Wilson, a lawmaker from South Carolina, announced his intention to draft legislation directing the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to design this new currency.

According to Anadolu Agency, Wilson made his announcement on the social media platform X, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to honor Trump in this manner. He criticized what he termed 'Bidenflation,' attributing economic struggles to President Joe Biden, who served between Trump's first and second terms. Wilson claimed that 'Bidenflation destroyed the economy by forcing American families to carry more cash,' adding that the proposed bill would be the "most valuable bill for the most valuable President."

Currently, the largest US banknote is the $100 bill, a standard that has been in place since 1969. However, Wilson's proposal comes at a time when many economists attribute inflation to global economic disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, rather than domestic policy decisions. By the end of Biden's presidency, US inflation rates were near pre-pandemic levels, with January figures showing a 3% yearly increase and a 0.5% monthly rise, both exceeding forecasts.

Economists and officials have also expressed concerns that tariffs threatened by Trump on other countries, some of which are already in effect, could contribute to rising inflation. Additionally, under US law, no living person is permitted to appear on US currency, posing a legal challenge to Wilson's proposal.
