Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Friday that France is prepared to defend Israel should it come under attack by Iran. Macron emphasized that while France stands ready to protect Israel, it does not intend to engage in any offensive military operations.

According to Anadolu Agency, Macron stated at a news briefing that France, considering its capabilities, will participate in defensive operations to protect Israel if Iran retaliates against Israeli actions. The French president stressed the importance of pursuing a diplomatic approach in light of the escalating tensions following Israeli strikes on Iran.

Macron urged all involved parties to exercise restraint to prevent further destabilization in the region. He highlighted the critical nature of Iran's nuclear program and emphasized the need for a negotiated resolution. Expressing regret over Iran's dismissal of a US proposal for limited uranium enrichment, Macron underscored the threat posed by Iran's potential acquisition of nuclear weapons.

The French president also clarified that France has not been involved in any recent military operations or their planning. Following a National Security and Defense Council meeting, Macron announced the reinforcement of "Operation Sentinelle," aimed at addressing potential threats on French soil. This operation will see the daily deployment of military personnel to secure sensitive sites across the country.

Macron reiterated the urgency of establishing a ceasefire in Gaza and delivering humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population. He confirmed the postponement of a UN-backed conference on the two-state solution due to logistical and security concerns, reaffirming France's commitment to recognizing the State of Palestine and advancing the peace process.
