France Prepares Targeted Measures to Ease Fuel Price Pressure

Bordeaux:<Text>

French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced Thursday that the government is developing new 'targeted' measures to assist motorists affected by rising fuel prices, while assuring citizens that there is no fuel supply shortage in the country. Lecornu emphasized that ministers are tasked with presenting proposals 'early next week' to mitigate the impact of higher fuel costs on households.

According to Anadolu Agency, Lecornu underlined his support for targeted aid, stating that such assistance should be directed towards those most impacted by the price hikes. He pointed out that individuals who depend on their vehicles for daily activities are particularly deserving of this targeted support. Despite public concern, Lecornu reassured that the fuel supply remains stable, stating there is no 'volume crisis,' although some service stations, especially those offering lower prices, are experiencing 'logistical problems.'

The government is also ex ploring the possibility of utilizing any additional tax revenues generated from higher fuel prices to fund broader economic or environmental initiatives, including decarbonization efforts. Meanwhile, the ongoing disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil transit route, remains a concern. The strait has been effectively disrupted since early March due to Iranian measures in response to the US-Israeli offensive on Iran that started on February 28.

US President Donald Trump has consistently encouraged European allies and Gulf states to play a more proactive role in securing the strait, asserting that nations reliant on its oil should take responsibility for reopening it. The regional tensions have heightened since the joint US-Israel offensive on Iran, with Tehran responding through drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military assets.
