Creil:A French court has upheld a six-month closure of a private school attended by Muslim students in the northern city of Creil.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Administrative Court of Amiens rejected appeals from associations managing the Al Ghazali school that sought to suspend the closure order. The court maintained that the school failed to meet necessary safety guarantees for its students, despite ongoing construction efforts at the facility.
The closure order, which began on September 30, affects approximately 250 students across primary, middle, and high school levels. The managing associations' claim that the closure would lead to severe financial consequences was also dismissed by the court, which stated that the associations did not demonstrate the required 'particular urgency' to halt the order.
Families now have 15 days to enroll their children in other schools. Safety inspections conducted in June and September identified irregularities in the building used for primary education, necessitating corrective measures. These concerns led the Oise prefecture to order the school's closure on September 29, citing issues with certain rooms, operational arrangements, and overall safety.
The associations managing the school have the option to appeal the court's decision within 10 days.
