Gaza: The Global Sumud Flotilla announced that its ships are currently 715 nautical miles from Gaza as they gather in international waters in an effort to break Israel's blockade on the region.
According to Anadolu Agency, the coalition has stated that its Greek fleet is expected to join the humanitarian mission 'in the coming days.' The group emphasized that the ships are coming together, with the Greek fleet soon joining, as they enter the final weeks of their mission to reach Gaza and challenge what they describe as Israel's 'illegal blockade.'
A video released by the coalition features the vessel Sirius, which bears a date stamp of September 22, indicating it is 'five days from the high-risk zone' and 'seven days from Gaza.' Organizers have reported that more than 40 vessels are currently converging in international waters to participate in the mission.
In recent weeks, numerous ships have departed from ports in North Africa and Europe, all aiming to reach Gaza as part of this extensive humanitarian effort. This mission represents the largest of its kind, targeting Gaza, where 2.4 million Palestinians live under an Israeli blockade that has been in place for 18 years.
Israel has a history of intercepting ships bound for Gaza, seizing the vessels, and deporting those on board. UN investigators have recently concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, where more than 65,300 people have been killed since October 2023.
