Germany: Germany's Chief of Defense, Gen. Carsten Breuer, has been elected as the next chair of NATO's Military Committee. The announcement was made by the committee's current chair, Adm. Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, on Saturday. Breuer is set to assume this significant role in July 2027.

According to Anadolu Agency, Adm. Cavo Dragone extended his congratulations to Gen. Breuer through a post on the US social media platform X. He praised Breuer's operational judgement and his familiarity with the alliance, emphasizing that his leadership of the German Armed Forces will greatly benefit NATO. Cavo Dragone highlighted the trust that NATO's chiefs of defense have placed in Breuer, particularly during a challenging time for Euro-Atlantic security.

Adm. Cavo Dragone assured Breuer of the full support from both the Committee and the International Military Staff during the transition period. He expressed his eagerness to work closely with Gen. Breuer until the handover in July 2027. The NATO Military Committee plays a crucial role as the alliance's senior military authority, providing essential military advice to NATO's political decision-making bodies. The chair of this committee serves as NATO's senior military official and principal military adviser to the Secretary General.

Adm. Cavo Dragone has been serving as the chair of the committee since January 2025.
