Kyiv:German Chancellor Friedrich Merz made an unexpected visit to Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, on Sunday, as confirmed by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
According to Anadolu Agency, Merz is scheduled to engage in discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The talks are set to focus on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing European and international matters.
Sybiha highlighted that the agenda for the visit is centered around enhancing Ukraine's defense capabilities, resilience, and shared European security. He noted that Ukraine and Germany share a solid strategic partnership, which they are eager to deepen further.
Reflecting on Germany's recent celebration of its reunification, Sybiha remarked on the significance of unity in Europe. He emphasized Ukraine's role in defending European freedom, security, and unity, with Germany offering steadfast support.
Chancellor Merz conveyed a message of reliability to Ukraine, stating on the US social media platform X that Ukraine is entering critical weeks. He underscored that Germany's security is linked to the outcome of the ongoing conflict, which is now in its fifth year, and that Germany's support is driven by its own national interests.
