Washington: Gulf countries have collectively pledged over $4 billion in financial support to US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace, signaling a commitment to efforts aimed at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and enhancing regional stability. This announcement was made during the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace held in Washington.
According to Anadolu Agency, Qatar and Saudi Arabia each committed $1 billion, while Kuwait pledged $1 billion over the coming years. The United Arab Emirates announced an additional $1.2 billion in support for Gaza through the board. Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani reaffirmed Doha’s commitment to the Board of Peace and its mission of achieving a just and lasting resolution for both Palestinians and Israelis. He emphasized Qatar’s pledge of $1 billion to support the board’s objectives, including humanitarian coordination in Gaza.
Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir echoed this commitment, referencing the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative and announcing Saudi Arabia’s $1 billion pledge. Al-Jubeir emphasized the kingdom’s dedication to peace, prosperity, and regional integration under its leadership, and its willingness to alleviate Palestinian suffering.
Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah expressed Kuwait’s support for international peace efforts, pledging $1 billion to aid Palestinian stability in Gaza. UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced an additional $1.2 billion in support for Gaza, highlighting Abu Dhabi’s ongoing assistance.
Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa noted Bahrain’s contributions to the Board of Peace and its readiness to support infrastructure development for Gaza. Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita also declared Morocco’s financial contributions and readiness to support security and coexistence initiatives in Gaza.
During the meeting, President Trump announced that the US is contributing $10 billion to the Board of Peace. Collectively, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, the UAE, Morocco, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, and Kuwait pledged over $7 billion. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs is raising an additional $2 billion, with Japan hosting a significant fundraiser.
The Board of Peace, established to promote peacemaking globally, operates within the framework of a peaceful settlement in the Gaza Strip. A US-backed ceasefire agreement has been in place since October 10, following a two-year conflict that resulted in significant casualties. Despite the ceasefire, ongoing violations have been reported by Gaza’s Health Ministry.
