Sofia: Bulgaria’s caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov and his cabinet took the oath of office before the National Assembly, the Bulgarian News Agency reported. President Iliana Iotova attended the swearing-in ceremony and announced the scheduling of parliamentary elections for April 19.
According to Anadolu Agency, the formation of the caretaker government follows the resignation of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov’s Cabinet on December 11, 2025, after prolonged protests. The country has been without a regular government since then, prompting the president to initiate the constitutional process for forming a new government. This involved consultations with parliamentary groups in the 51st National Assembly.
The president’s efforts to establish a new government faced challenges, with three failed attempts leading to the necessity of appointing a caretaker Cabinet and setting early parliamentary elections within two months. Additionally, former President Rumen Radev resigned last month, transferring his responsibilities to Vice President Iliana Iotova.
