Indonesian President Commits 8,000 Troops to Gaza Peacekeeping Force

Washington: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday pledged 8,000 “or more” troops to the International Stabilization Force in Gaza at the inaugural Board of Peace meeting. Despite acknowledging the obstacles, Subianto expressed optimism for achieving real peace under the leadership of US President Donald Trump.

According to Anadolu Agency, President Subianto emphasized the importance of contributing a significant number of troops to support the peace efforts in Palestine and Gaza. He reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to actively participate in the stabilization force, aiming for a lasting and peaceful solution to the Palestinian issue.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also spoke at the event, urging for a credible pathway to Palestinian self-determination through the establishment of an independent state of Palestine. He highlighted the need for ending ceasefire violations to preserve lives and support reconstruction efforts, stressing the importance of Palestinians exercising full control over their land in alignment with UN resolutions.

Sharif commended Trump for his role in brokering a ceasefire between Pakistan and India, which was announced on May 10 after days of conflict. He referred to Trump as a “savior of South Asia,” acknowledging the potential prevention of significant loss of life due to Trump’s intervention.
