Heavy Fog Disrupts Ship Traffic in Canakkale Strait

CANAKKALE: Transit ship traffic through Trkiye's Canakkale Strait was temporarily suspended early Thursday due to heavy fog, causing significant disruptions in the region, according to Turkish officials. The suspension affected ships traveling in both directions through this critical maritime passage. According to Anadolu Agency, the heavy fog, which developed early in the morning, led to significantly reduced visibility, prompting officials to instruct ships from both the north and south to halt their transit. Authorities have communicated via radio that traffic is expected to resume once conditions improve and the fog clears. Despite the suspension of transit ship traffic, local ferry services have continued to operate through the strait, which serves as a crucial link from the Aegean Sea to the Sea of Marmara and, subsequently, through the Istanbul Strait to the Black Sea. The situation is being closely monitored, and updates are expected as conditions change.
