Beirut: The Lebanese group Hezbollah announced on Wednesday that it conducted a series of drone and missile attacks targeting Israeli military sites and command headquarters in central and northern Israel.
According to Anadolu Agency, Hezbollah's statement detailed that a missile was fired at the Dado base, which houses the headquarters of the Israeli army's Northern Command, located northeast of Safed. Additionally, the Giv'a drone control base, situated east of Safed, was targeted with a precision-guided missile.
A coordinated drone attack was also launched against the headquarters of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in central Israel. Furthermore, missile and drone strikes were reported at the Tel Hashomer base in Tel Aviv, the Iron Dome radars at Kiryat Eliezer in northern Israel, and the Ein Shemer missile defense base east of Hadera. Hezbollah claimed responsibility for drone attacks on the Haifa naval base and Ramat David Air Base in northern Israel as well.
Earlier in the day, Hezbollah reported a rocket barrage targeting a gathering of Israeli army forces at the Metula site in northern Israel. It also claimed attacks on a Merkava tank and an armored personnel carrier in the village of Houla in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah stated that these attacks were "in response to the criminal Israeli aggression" affecting Lebanese cities and towns, including the southern suburbs of Beirut.
The Israeli army confirmed that sirens were activated in northern Israel following launches from Lebanon. A military statement noted that most of these launches were intercepted by air defenses. The situation intensified on Monday when Hezbollah targeted a military site in northern Israel, responding to ongoing Israeli airstrikes and the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei amid US-Israeli actions against Iran.
Subsequently, the Israeli army conducted airstrikes, resulting in at least 72 deaths and around 450 injuries. A ground incursion into southern Lebanon was also initiated. Israel enforces strict censorship on reporting casualties from missile attacks by Iran and Hezbollah or interceptions by its defenses, prohibiting the distribution of related footage.
The conflict, which escalated in October 2023 and developed into a full-scale war by September 2024, has seen Israel's military actions result in over 4,000 Lebanese deaths and approximately 17,000 injuries.
