House President, Annita Demetriou, will pay an official visit to the UK, at the invitation of the Speaker of the House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle. Demetriou will fly to London on July 2 and will return to Cyprus at the early hours of July 6. According to a House press release, during her visit Demetriou will hold separate meetings with the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Chairpersons of the Committees on Foreign Affairs, Education and Women and Equalities of the House of Commons, Alicia Kearns, Robin Walker and Caroline Nokes, respectively and members of the three Committees Demetriou will also meet with the Chair of the UK branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Dame Maria Miller and will attend a lunch with Sir Roger Gale, head of the Interparliamentary Group for Cyprus at the UK House and members of the Group. The Speaker of the House of Commons will host an official lunch in Demetriou’s honour and will organise an event entitled “Cyprus-UK: challenges and opportunities”, during which Demetriou will be the main speaker. The House President will also attend part of the weekly Prime Minister’s Questions session in the House of Commons. During her stay in London, Demetriou will have a meeting and a working dinner with the President, Christos Karaolis, and the members of the Board of the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK and will pay visits to the Olive Branch Aid, the Alkionides UK association and to the centre of the Cypriot community in Wood Green. Moreover she will hold separate meetings with the representatives of the UK Famagusta Association and that National Council of Cypriots in the UK.
