Houthi Drone and Missile Attacks Reported on Yemeni Airports

Mukalla:Yemeni media has reported that Houthi rebels attacked Al-Rayyan International Airport in the eastern province of Hadramout using three drones. Additionally, the group claimed responsibility for a ballistic missile strike on the southern city of Aden.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the attack on Al-Rayyan airport in Mukalla marks the first such incident since military tensions escalated in July. The state-run Hadramout TV channel confirmed the airport was targeted, specifically striking the runway and electricity administration. No injuries were reported at the time.

The channel aired footage purportedly showing the airport under attack, while Al-Masdar Online reported that the drones are believed to belong to the Houthis. However, the Houthis have not officially commented on the attack.

Al-Rayyan International Airport is a crucial facility, serving millions in Hadramout and neighboring provinces. In a separate incident, the Houthis allegedly targeted Aden International Airport with a ballistic missile, with local residents reporting a loud explosion near the site.

The Houthis, through spokesman Yahya Saree's Telegram statement, claimed the missile strike in Aden targeted the "Saudi operations room at the Badr camp." Additionally, Al-Jumhuriya TV highlighted heavy clashes between Yemeni forces and Houthi fighters in Taiz.

These developments occur amid an ongoing military offensive by the internationally recognized Yemeni government against the Houthis in the southwest. Recently, the Yemeni army reported it had conducted 744 attacks on the Houthis, resulting in significant Houthi casualties and destruction of military resources.

The conflict in Yemen began in 2014 when the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa, prompting a Saudi-led coalition intervention in 2015. Currently, the Houthis retain control over much of the northern and western regions, while government forces hold Aden and extensive areas in the south and east.
