Ankara: International cycling journalists commended the 61st Presidential Cycling Tour of Trkiye for its strong organization, stunning scenery, and worldwide appeal.
According to Anadolu Agency, Federico Guido, a correspondent with the Italian cycling website Tuttobiciweb, expressed his appreciation for the race and his experience in Trkiye. Visiting for the first time, Guido admired the country's landscapes, particularly the sea, and remarked on how the diverse scenarios enhanced his experience. He noted the inclusion of two mountain stages, Kiran and Feslikan, which he felt added a challenge and variety to the race. Guido believed these changes enriched the General Classification, promising more engaging battles among top cyclists.
Guido also noticed the enthusiasm of Turkish fans along the route and at finish lines, suggesting a growing interest in cycling among the local population. He hopes this enthusiasm will continue to expand in future editions of the race.
Nick Doup, representing the Dutch cycling website Wielerflits/Cyclingflash, highlighted the Tour's length and its demanding nature for riders. He praised the organizers' decision to include two mountain stages, which provide opportunities for climbers and make the general classification more competitive. Doup emphasized that the additional mountain stage allows for redemption and ongoing competition, rather than a single day determining the outcome for climbers.
Doup also commented on the strength of the participating teams and expressed optimism that more top riders will join the event in the future.
The Tour of Trkiye is categorized as a ProSeries event on the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Europe Tour calendar and is the only race in Trkiye at that level. The route features Mediterranean and Aegean coastal cities, including Izmir, Aydin, Mugla, and Antalya. Starting April 26 in Cesme, Izmir, and concluding in Ankara on May 3, the race covers a total distance of 1,133 kilometers (704 miles) with 161 cyclists from 27 countries.
