Iran Asserts No Deal with US Without ‘Tangible Results’

Tehran: Iran's parliament speaker and top negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, declared on Sunday that Tehran will not enter into any agreement with Washington unless it guarantees 'the rights of the Iranian people are secured.'

According to Anadolu Agency, Qalibaf emphasized the lack of trust in the enemy's words and promises, stating that the only measure for Iran is to achieve tangible results before fulfilling its commitments. These remarks were made during a virtual session of the parliament, where Qalibaf took an oath as the parliament's re-elected speaker.

The statement comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following US and Israeli strikes against Iran in late February. In response, Tehran launched retaliatory attacks targeting Israel and US allies in the Gulf and closed the Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire, mediated by Pakistan, took effect on April 8. However, subsequent negotiations in Islamabad failed to yield a lasting agreement, prompting US President Donald Trump to extend the truce indefinitely. Despite these efforts, Iran and the US have continued to exchange proposals and counterproposals in an attempt to resume direct talks and bring an end to the conflict.
