Tehran: Iran’s military announced on Sunday that it had launched ballistic missiles targeting Israel’s Ramat David Airbase. The attack was described as a direct response to what Iran calls Israeli assaults on civilians in southern Lebanon and Beirut’s southern suburbs.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Iranian military stated that the Ramat David Airbase was used as a launching ground for Israeli operations against Lebanon. The missile strike was characterized as a warning, with Iran accusing both the United States and Israel of breaching the ceasefire agreement established on April 8.
The military’s statement emphasized that any further Israeli attacks would provoke a ‘broader and more severe’ reaction from Iran. It further cautioned that continued attacks on Lebanon or any Israeli retaliation would result in ongoing Iranian assaults.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commented on the situation, asserting that the ceasefire agreement was conditional on a cessation of hostilities by all parties. However, they accused the US and Israel of failing to honor this commitment, citing ongoing aggressions in Lebanon and violations in the Strait of Hormuz, Sea of Oman, and Indian Ocean.
A statement from the commander of Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, shared by Press TV, warned Israel of potential ‘crushing and regret-inducing blows’ if it expanded attacks on Beirut or responded to Iran’s actions. The commander threatened that devastating retaliatory attacks would be launched against Israel and its allies.
Reports from Israeli media indicated that earlier on Sunday, Iran launched three missile waves targeting northern Israel, marking the first offensive since the ceasefire began on April 8.
