Tehran: More than 3,000 people have been killed in US-Israeli attacks across Iran since Feb. 28, Iran’s Forensic Authority announced Thursday. Abbas Masjedi Arani, who leads the authority, indicated that approximately 40% of the deceased were initially unidentifiable following the assaults.

According to Anadolu Agency, Masjedi Arani, speaking to the Iranian outlet Mizan, explained that the authorities utilized expertise gained during the 12-day war last June to identify the victims and return their remains to their families. He emphasized that the forensic authority, in collaboration with the judiciary, has mobilized all available resources to manage the casualties. Identification efforts, he noted, are still in progress.

The reported death toll of over 3,000 individuals has not been independently verified. Amid the ongoing conflict, Iran and the US announced a two-week truce on Tuesday. This temporary ceasefire is intended to facilitate discussions towards a final agreement to end the conflict initiated by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28.
