Iran Engages with Mediators on Seven-Day Plan with US

Tehran:Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that Tehran is in discussions with mediators to assess proposals for implementing a seven-day plan with the United States. Araghchi communicated this development on the social media platform X, emphasizing Iran's commitment to diplomacy amidst ongoing tensions with Washington.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Araghchi highlighted Iran's readiness to defend itself while continuing diplomatic efforts. He mentioned that Iran remains engaged with intermediaries to explore ideas that might lead to the execution of the seven-day plan in under a week.

Iran's plan, which was shared with the US via Qatari intermediaries in September, outlines steps for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and resuming negotiations within a week if the US meets certain conditions. These steps include the US ending hostilities, lifting naval blockades on Iranian ports, easing oil export restrictions, and releasing frozen Iranian assets in the first five days. On the sixth day, Iran would allow commercial shipping through the strait, with negotiations to follow on the seventh day.

Araghchi stated on October 8 that Tehran was reviewing the US's response to the proposal, with ongoing exchanges through mediators. This comes as both nations attempt to uphold a fragile ceasefire following months of military confrontations.

The Islamabad Memorandum, signed on June 18 after negotiations mediated by Pakistan and Oman, addressed issues such as maritime security, sanctions relief, and US naval restrictions. Oman, Pakistan, and Qatar continue their diplomatic efforts to bridge the differences between Tehran and Washington.
