Iran President Instructs Foreign Minister to Engage in ‘Fair, Equitable’ Talks with US Amid Regional Mediation Efforts

Tehran: Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian has directed the country's foreign minister to engage in 'fair and equitable negotiations' with the United States, emphasizing the principles of 'dignity, prudence, and expediency.'

According to Anadolu Agency, President Pezeshkian announced this directive through a social media post, highlighting that it comes in response to appeals from friendly regional governments. These governments have urged Iran to respond to a proposal by US President Donald Trump for negotiations. Pezeshkian underscored that any discussions must occur in a 'suitable environment' devoid of threats and 'unreasonable expectations,' and should align with 'our national interests.'

On Monday, reports from Iranian media suggested that President Pezeshkian had ordered the resumption of nuclear negotiations with the United States. These negotiations had been stalled since the 12-day conflict with Israel in June 2025. The reports indicated that talks might resume soon, potentially involving Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff.

Subsequent reports, however, clarified that the immediate resumption of talks remained unconfirmed. There is speculation that Araghchi and Witkoff might meet in Istanbul on Friday. These developments are occurring amidst intensified diplomatic efforts by regional countries, including Turkey, to reduce tensions between Tehran and Washington.
