Iran Warns of Regional Air Travel Disruptions Due to Airline Bans

Tehran:Iran has issued a warning that air travel across the region could face disruptions if its airlines continue to be denied access to flights and airport services.

According to Anadolu Agency, Mohammad Mokhber, a senior adviser to Iran's supreme leader, stated in a post on the social media platform X that Tehran will not tolerate regional countries aligning themselves with hostile US policies against Iran. He emphasized that Iran's strategy is clear either air travel in the region is accessible to all or to none.

Mokhber further warned that if Iran cannot utilize air travel and receive airport services, other countries in the region will face similar restrictions. He criticized the decision by some regional countries to align with Washington, suggesting that these actions will not be forgotten by the Iranian people.

This warning follows the expansion of restrictions on Iranian airlines amid US sanctions targeting Tehran's international operations. Iraq's Najaf International Airport suspended all flights to and from Iran on Friday until further notice, following directives from local authorities. Similarly, the United Arab Emirates halted flights by Iranian airlines on Thursday, citing US restrictions.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that Iranian airlines' global operations would be halted as of September 23 due to new sanctions, as part of efforts to end the US-Israeli conflict involving Iran. Talks aimed at reaching a final peace have stalled over disagreements concerning navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital strategic route for energy and goods supplies.
