Iran Yet to Respond to US Vice President’s Message, Reports Indicate

Tehran:Iran has not responded to a message sent by US Vice President JD Vance to Mohsen Rezaei, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, according to a senior Iranian security source on Thursday.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the message was reportedly sent to Rezaei, but Tehran has not yet replied. The source dismissed media speculation about the message's contents, labeling such reports as inaccurate.

The exchange of correspondence between American and Iranian officials is not uncommon, as noted by the source, with similar exchanges having occurred during the administration of former US President Barack Obama. The Wall Street Journal reported that Vance's letter aimed to revive peace negotiations between the two countries.

The newspaper cited American officials and individuals familiar with the situation, stating that the letter was sent under the direction of President Donald Trump, as part of efforts to establish a diplomatic framework to prevent renewed US military actions against Iran. However, Trump denied instructing Vance to initiate negotiations, clarifying that the communication was related to Iran's need for medical supplies. "No, what it is, is that they need help with medical supplies and various things," Trump stated when questioned about directing Vance to contact Iran.

These diplomatic efforts occur amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran, particularly regarding the implementation of a June memorandum of understanding and the navigation of the Strait of Hormuz.
