Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi asserted on Thursday that Israeli military actions have damaged ancient historical monuments in Iran, including sites dating back to the 14th century. According to Anadolu Agency, Araghchi made the claims on the US social media platform X, stating, "Israel is bombing Iranian historical monuments dating as far back as the 14th century. Multiple UNESCO World Heritage Sites have been struck." The foreign minister criticized UNESCO for its lack of response to these alleged attacks, expressing his disappointment over what he described as the organization's "unacceptable silence." Araghchi further commented on the ongoing conflict, suggesting that Israel's actions are driven by animosity towards Iran's rich historical legacy. His remarks come amid continued joint airstrikes by the US and Israel on Iran since February 28, which have resulted in approximately 1,300 deaths and over 10,000 injuries. In response to these strikes, Iran has launched drone and missile att acks targeting Israel, as well as other countries in the Gulf region that host US military assets.
