Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on Monday that 'nothing justifies' the drone attack targeting the office of Masrour Barzani, the premier of the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government (KRG). In a statement shared on US social media platform X, Araghchi expressed his disapproval of the attack, urging Kurdish leaders to remain vigilant against attempts to disrupt regional harmony.

According to Anadolu Agency, Araghchi emphasized Iran's history of support for its 'Kurdish friends,' referencing past assistance against threats from Saddam Hussein and the terrorist group ISIS, known locally as DAESH. He acknowledged the security cooperation provided by the Kurdish region along Iran's border, underscoring Tehran's gratitude for this relationship.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei commented on the incident, describing it as a 'highly suspicious development' necessitating careful examination. Baghaei reiterated Iran's dedication to fostering strong ties with Iraq and the Kurdish Regional Government, advocating for unity against 'sinister plots' by adversaries aiming to disrupt these relations.

Baghaei also highlighted concerns raised by Iraqi officials, including warnings about foreign-linked activities designed to execute 'false flag' operations. These concerns underline the broader regional challenges faced by both nations.

On the same day, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein engaged in a phone conversation with Araghchi to discuss the attack. The Iraqi Foreign Ministry reported that Barzani's residence and office were targeted using Hadid-110 drones. Hussein condemned the attack, seeking clarity on Iran's stance and warning against the potential escalation that could impact Iraq's security and regional stability.

Araghchi reiterated the lack of justification for such aggressive actions, pointing to the longstanding positive relations between Iran and the Kurdish Regional Government, particularly with its principal political entities.
