Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi recently engaged in a phone conversation with Bafel Talabani, the head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in Iraq, to address concerns over "terrorist activity" along the Iran-Iraq border and to discuss the enhancement of security cooperation.

According to Anadolu Agency, the discussion was initiated by Araghchi to emphasize the need for strengthened collaboration to secure the border, as outlined in existing bilateral security agreements. During the call, Talabani expressed his condolences for the deaths of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and others in what was described as an "American-Zionist crime."

Araghchi highlighted the presence of "terrorist movements" along the shared border, underscoring the importance of joint efforts to bolster border security. Talabani responded by outlining measures already undertaken to reinforce security along the border. He emphasized the significance of continued cooperation and coordination to prevent destabilizing activities and maintain regional stability.
