Tehran: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf took to social media on Monday to mock US President Donald Trump by sharing an image captioned 'Make America Hungry Again.' This post served as a satirical jab at Trump, following the President's sharing of an inaccurate Newsmax report on his Truth Social platform. The report had falsely quoted Ghalibaf as saying, 'We Are Hungry, We Cannot Survive.'

According to Anadolu Agency, Ghalibaf's social media post cleverly played on Trump's well-known slogan, 'Make America Great Again,' and included statistics highlighting hunger and food insecurity issues in the United States. Although Ghalibaf did not directly name Trump in his message, he criticized the President's actions by stating, 'You cannot cover up your defeats with baseless claims.'

This exchange comes in the wake of President Trump's announcement last Wednesday, where he declared his plan to initiate what he termed 'the most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country.' Trump described his strategy as 'economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale,' specifically targeting Iran. He warned that countries providing economic support to Tehran would face severe repercussions.

Tensions between the US and Iran have been escalating since late February when the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran. This prompted retaliatory actions from Tehran against Israeli and US military assets. Although a ceasefire agreement was reached in April, differences have persisted. Despite a memorandum of understanding signed in mid-June between Washington and Tehran to ensure freedom of navigation in the Hormuz Strait, the agreement's implementation has stalled. Last month saw a resumption of hostilities, with the US targeting Iran and Tehran responding by attacking US military facilities in several Arab nations.
