Iranian President Denies Health Issues for Supreme Leader

Tehran:Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei is reported to have no "specific ongoing health issues," according to the country's president, who dismissed reports of severe injuries from the initial stages of the Iran war earlier this year.

According to Anadolu Agency, President Masoud Pezeshkian assured that from a medical perspective, Ayatollah Khamenei is in good health. Pezeshkian, who has a background in medicine, shared these remarks during an interview with US broadcaster CBS News.

The president mentioned that he had two meetings with Ayatollah Khamenei, the most recent of which lasted more than seven hours. He emphasized that the supreme leader showed the physical stamina required for such an extended discussion and currently has no medical limitations.

Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei took over as Iran's supreme leader on March 8, following the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who had a long tenure in the role. There has been significant international interest in his health, especially after US claims that he was injured in the initial attacks of the Iran war on February 28.

US President Donald Trump had stated that Mojtaba Khamenei was "very seriously wounded" on the left side of his body, although he also expressed doubt about the reports of the cleric's death.

Regarding Iran's governance, President Pezeshkian noted that a six-member transitional council, comprising representatives from Iran's armed forces, parliament, and various state institutions, is currently in charge of decision-making through a process of collective consultation.
