Iran: Iran's Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant has generated a cumulative 80 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, the country's nuclear chief announced recently.
According to Anadolu Agency, Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, stated that this remarkable achievement was accomplished despite "external pressures, threats, and sensitive regional conditions." Eslami emphasized that electricity production at the Bushehr facility has remained uninterrupted throughout its years of operation, showcasing the resilience of Iran's nuclear capabilities.
Eslami further highlighted the economic and environmental benefits of the plant's output, noting that it has conserved the equivalent of 131 million barrels of crude oil or 21.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Additionally, the plant has played a significant role in environmental protection by preventing the emission of 86.3 million tons of harmful gases during its operational years.
Describing the accomplishment as a testament to Iran's technological prowess, Eslami underscored the importance of this milestone for the nation's nuclear industry. Bushehr, Iran's sole operational nuclear power plant, is strategically located on the southern Gulf coast and supplies electricity to the national grid.
The announcement comes amid heightened regional tensions since late February, following airstrikes by the US and Israel on Iran. Despite reports from Iranian media that the Bushehr plant was targeted multiple times during the conflict, Eslami assured that these attacks did not disrupt operations or affect the facility's electricity generation.
