Ankara: Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei on Sunday reaffirmed Tehran's support for the Lebanese group Hezbollah and called for a 'complete and unconditional' end to Israeli attacks on Lebanon. His statement came on the US social media company X in response to a letter pledging allegiance from Hezbollah's secretary-general and the group's members.

According to Anadolu Agency, Khamenei emphasized that Iran has designated the preservation of Lebanon's territorial integrity and the absolute, unconditional termination of Israeli aggression as primary conditions for any agreement to end the imposed war. He described Hezbollah as 'an unyielding rock as forerunner of groups' fighting against Israeli assaults.

The Iranian leader also criticized the US government and Israel, stating that nations globally 'have grown weary of the tyranny and oppression' of these entities, labeling them as 'destroyers of lives and generations.' He asserted that 'there remains no path forward except jihad and resistance.'

Official Lebanese figures report that Israeli attacks in Lebanon have resulted in 4,330 deaths and 12,236 injuries since March 2. On June 26, a US-mediated framework agreement was signed by Lebanon and Israel, providing for a phased Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories. However, the agreement lacks a specific timetable for withdrawal, linking the process to the Lebanese army taking full security responsibility in vacated areas and the disarmament of non-state groups, including Hezbollah.

Israel continues to occupy parts of southern Lebanon, with some areas held for decades and others seized during the previous war between October 2023 and November 2024.
