Najaf:Iraqi Airways resumed direct flights to Iran on Thursday following a seven-month suspension. The suspension began in early March amid the US-Israeli war on Iran.
According to Anadolu Agency, the national carrier now offers regular daily flights from Najaf International Airport to Tehran, Mashhad, and Isfahan.
The resumption of flights was facilitated by efforts from Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi and Transport Minister Wahab al-Hasani, who ensured all necessary regulatory and technical requirements were met.
The airline stated that the restoration of these routes aims to facilitate passenger travel and enhance Iraq's regional air connections, focusing on religious, medical, and educational travel. Flights were initially suspended as a precautionary measure due to the outbreak of conflict on February 28, which also prompted Iraq to close its airspace amid rising military tensions in the region.
