Jerusalem: The Israeli army announced on Sunday that it has seized several individuals during recent operations in southern Syria, bringing them into Israel for interrogation. A military statement detailed that the army's 210th Division conducted raids over the past week targeting what were described as 'weapons warehouses.'

According to Anadolu Agency, the army reported that several people were detained and transported to Israel for comprehensive questioning. Despite the absence of threats from the new Syrian administration against Israel, there has been an escalation in Israeli military operations in the region since the ousting of Bashar al-Assad's regime in late 2024.

These intensified operations have included airstrikes resulting in civilian casualties and the destruction of Syrian military infrastructure, such as army positions, vehicles, and ammunition depots. Israeli forces have also made incursions into Syria's Quneitra and Rif Dimashq provinces.

Since 1967, Israel has maintained control over much of Syria's Golan Heights. Following the collapse of Assad's regime, Tel Aviv extended its influence into the Syrian buffer zone and declared the 1974 Disengagement Agreement with Syria null and void.

Bashar al-Assad, who led Syria for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia in December, marking the end of the Baath Party's long-standing rule that began in 1963. Subsequently, a new transitional administration under President Ahmad al-Sharaa was established in Syria in January.
