Tehran: An Israeli airstrike on a prison in Tehran resulted in the deaths of 71 people, with numerous others injured, as reported by Iran on Sunday. Asghar Jahangir, a spokesman for Iran's judiciary, described the attack on Evin Prison as a 'full-fledged crime by Zionist forces.' He emphasized that the strike also affected civilians residing near the prison's visitation and judicial buildings.

According to Anadolu Agency, the fatalities consist of prison administrative staff, conscripted soldiers, inmates, relatives of prisoners, and nearby civilians, some of whom lost their lives during the attack. The airstrike, which occurred last Monday, was part of a broader series of attacks conducted by the Israeli army targeting multiple sites across Tehran.

The conflict between Israel and Iran began on June 13, following Israeli airstrikes on Iranian military, nuclear, and civilian locations. These attacks resulted in the deaths of at least 606 people and injuries to 5,332, as reported by Iran's Health Ministry. In retaliation, Tehran launched missile and drone strikes, leading to the deaths of at least 29 individuals and injuring over 3,400, according to data from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

The hostilities between the two nations ceased with a US-brokered ceasefire, which took effect last Tuesday, one day after the airstrike on the prison.
