Tel aviv: An Israeli ministerial committee has given the green light for the acquisition of two new squadrons of US-manufactured fighter jets, the Israeli Defense Ministry announced. This decision comes amid the ongoing tensions with Iran, highlighting the strategic military preparations being made by Israel.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Ministerial Committee on Procurement approved the plan to purchase a fourth squadron of F-35 aircraft and a second squadron of F-15IA aircraft. The deals are valued at "tens of billions" of shekels and include full fleet integration into the Israeli Air Force, along with comprehensive sustainment, spare parts, and logistics support.

This development occurs as Israel continues its military actions in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, actions that violate existing ceasefire agreements. There are also indications that Tel Aviv is preparing for a potential escalation of hostilities with Tehran.

The US and Israel initiated strikes against Iran on February 28, which led to retaliatory actions from Tehran against Israel and other regional countries that host US assets. These events have also resulted in disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil shipments.

A ceasefire facilitated by Pakistani mediation was announced on April 8, followed by discussions in Islamabad on April 11-12, although no conclusive agreement was reached. Subsequently, US President Donald Trump unilaterally extended the truce at Pakistan's request without establishing a new timeframe for its duration.
