Jerusalem: More than 10,000 Palestinians are in Israeli detention, including around 3,600 without charge or trial, a prisoners’ affairs group said on Tuesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Prisoners’ Media Office reported that the Israeli army has arrested over 17,000 Palestinians, including 545 women and 1,360 children, since October 2023. The group stated that there are currently 10,100 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody, with 3,600 held under the policy of administrative detention, which allows for indefinite detention without charge or trial.

The media office further highlighted that Israeli authorities issued administrative detention orders for 755 Palestinians last month, including five women. This policy continues to be a point of contention, as it permits the Israeli authorities to extend the detention period without formal charges or a trial.

The situation has been exacerbated by escalating tension across Palestinian territories due to Israel’s ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. Over 54,400 people, predominantly women and children, have been killed since October 2023. In addition, at least 973 Palestinians have lost their lives, and more than 7,000 have been injured in attacks by the Israeli army and illegal settlers in the occupied West Bank during the same period.
