Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Tuesday that fears over provoking Russia are irrelevant as Moscow continues to carry out daily deadly attacks, urging the US to take stronger steps toward pressuring the Kremlin for a ceasefire.

According to Anadolu Agency, when asked by journalists whether yesterday’s operation might enrage the Russians, Zelenskyy responded that just a day earlier, Russia had launched a massive overnight attack on Ukraine, involving over 480 drones and missiles. These strikes targeted civilian infrastructure and residential buildings, highlighting the persistent threat faced by Ukraine.

Zelenskyy emphasized that these attacks occur daily, with only occasional pauses. He commented on social media platform X that a “pause” is now defined by the absence of fatalities, even though drones continue to fly and cause injuries. The so-called pauses merely indicate a temporary reduction in the number of attacks, but Ukraine still confronts “dozens of drones and cruise missiles.”

He argued that the focus should not be on whether Russia is angered, but on urging Russia to move toward ending the conflict. Zelenskyy called on the global community to take collective action to halt the aggression.

Zelenskyy further urged the United States to adopt a more active role in resolving the conflict. He expressed hope that President Trump would support sanctions and pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin to take the first step toward ending the war by agreeing to a ceasefire. Zelenskyy remains hopeful that increased pressure from Washington could expedite efforts to bring the war to a halt.
