Mahshahr: An Israeli airstrike targeted a petrochemical firm in Mahshahr, southwestern Iran on Monday, causing partial damage to the industrial complex, according to Iranian officials.

According to Anadolu Agency, Valiollah Hayati, deputy governor for security affairs in Khuzestan province, told reporters: ‘A few minutes ago, the Karun Mahshahr Petrochemical Company was attacked by the Zionist enemy, and part of this industrial complex was damaged as a result of the projectiles hitting it.’

Hayati reported that no casualties or injuries were documented following the airstrike. He noted that further details regarding the extent of the damage and any potential casualties would be disclosed later.

In response to the airstrike, the Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone Organization initiated an emergency evacuation of day-shift employees, as reported by Iran’s IRNA news agency.

The Israeli army later confirmed that multiple sites at the petrochemical complex had been targeted by Israeli air force operations, with more information to be provided subsequently.

The incident follows a period of heightened tensions, with Iran launching missiles toward northern Israel late Sunday. This marked Iran’s first missile bombardment since an April ceasefire, prompted by Israeli strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs earlier the same day. The escalation resulted in the death of at least two individuals and injuries to 11 others.
