Beirut: A Lebanese man was injured Saturday in an Israeli airstrike on the town of Kfar Sir in southern Lebanon, marking a new violation of the ceasefire agreement signed about a year ago, the Health Ministry said. The attack adds to the mounting tension along the Lebanese-Israeli border, where Tel Aviv has been intensifying airstrikes in southern towns despite the ceasefire in place since late November 2024.

According to Anadolu Agency, the airstrike occurred a day after two people were killed and a third was wounded on Friday in two Israeli airstrikes targeting motorcycles in the southern Nabatieh province. These incidents highlight the fragile nature of the ceasefire agreement as Israeli military operations continue in the region.

On Friday, Israel's public broadcaster KAN reported that Tel Aviv was considering escalating its military operations in Lebanon on claims of countering Hezbollah's efforts to bolster its military capabilities. This potential escalation raises concerns about further violations of the ceasefire agreement and the impact on civilian lives in the affected areas.

The Israeli army's offensive, which began in October 2023 and escalated to a full-scale operation in September 2024, has resulted in the deaths of more than 4,000 people and left nearly 17,000 injured in Lebanon. Under the ceasefire, the Israeli army was supposed to withdraw from southern Lebanon this January, but it only partially pulled out and continues to maintain a military presence at five border outposts.
