Gaza city: The Israeli army has acknowledged responsibility for the deaths of two Palestinians in the northern Gaza Strip, marking a breach of the current ceasefire agreement. The admissions came on Monday evening following military operations in the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Israeli military released a statement indicating that the two Palestinians were shot and killed in separate incidents. The army claimed that the individuals posed "an immediate threat" to the troops, a justification frequently used by Israeli forces in the region. This incident has further strained the ceasefire that was supposed to have taken effect on October 10.

Medical sources earlier informed Anadolu that one Palestinian was killed by shelling from an Israeli drone east of the Zeitoun neighborhood in Gaza City. Notably, this location falls outside the designated withdrawal zone stipulated in the ceasefire agreement.

According to Gaza's Government Media Office, since the ceasefire, at least 342 Palestinians have been killed, with nearly 900 others sustaining injuries due to Israeli attacks. The ongoing conflict has seen a particularly heavy toll since October 2023, with more than 70,000 people killed in Gaza, predominantly women and children, and over 171,000 others injured. The devastation has left much of the enclave in ruins, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
