Israeli Army Burns Displacement Camp in Gaza, Leaving 800 Palestinians Homeless

Gaza City:The Israeli army burned down a displacement camp in eastern Gaza City on Sunday evening, resulting in over 800 Palestinians being left without homes, according to a statement from Gaza's Public Works and Housing Ministry on Monday.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the ministry reported that Israeli quadcopter drones ignited the fire that consumed an entire camp near the Shujaiya junction around 8 p.m. Sunday. This incident displaced more than 200 families, primarily composed of women, children, the elderly, and patients.

The ministry emphasized the severe impact of the event, noting that the destruction of the tents caused widespread panic, fear, and terror among the families, leaving them without shelter or alternatives to protect them from harsh conditions. The ministry labeled the incident as part of a pattern of "forced displacement and continuous uprooting," describing it as a "full-fledged war crime and crime against humanity" that violates international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions regarding civilian protection during conflicts.

The ministry has urged the international community, including the UN Security Council and rights organizations, to take immediate action to halt what it described as genocide and ongoing destruction in Gaza. Palestinian data suggests that Israel has increased its attacks on the Gaza Strip ahead of the Israeli Knesset elections scheduled for Tuesday.

Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian stated on Friday that Palestinian lives are being used as a "winning card" in the Israeli elections. Despite a ceasefire that began on October 10, 2025, the Israeli army has continued daily assaults in Gaza, with Gaza's Health Ministry reporting at least 1,551 Palestinians killed and 5,573 injured. Since October 2023, more than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed, over 175,000 injured, and about 90% of Gaza's civilian infrastructure has been destroyed.
