Yaroun: The Israeli army demolished a monastery and a school operated by the Sisters of the Holy Savior in Yaroun, a town located in southern Lebanon, as reported by the state National News Agency on Friday. The demolition marks a significant event in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanon, affecting not only the religious community but also the educational fabric of the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, the school was esteemed as one of the most prominent educational institutions in the area, having educated thousands of students from various towns within the Bint Jbeil district over the years. The agency emphasized that its destruction represents a significant loss on both educational and social fronts.

The demolition is part of a broader offensive by Israel in Lebanon, which commenced on March 2. This military campaign has resulted in over 2,600 fatalities and has displaced more than 1 million individuals. Despite a 10-day ceasefire initiated on April 17 and extended until May 17, Israel has been accused of daily violations through continued airstrikes and the demolition of structures.

In addition to its military actions, Israel maintains a "buffer zone" in southern Lebanon, purportedly to prevent attacks from Hezbollah. This current offensive follows an earlier truce reached in November 2024.
