Ankara: Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz expressed a 'good feeling' about the widespread destruction in the Gaza Strip, describing it as the result of a 'deliberate policy' aimed at eliminating perceived threats. Katz made these comments during a tour of northern Gaza, which was broadcast on Israel's Channel 14. During the tour, Katz announced plans to establish three military-linked settlement outposts in the territory.
According to Anadolu Agency, Katz was asked about his reaction to the devastation in Gaza, to which he replied, 'A good feeling, isn't it?' He attributed the destruction to a 'deliberate policy' intended to eliminate threats. Katz emphasized that Israel had shifted from its previous strategy of temporary military raids, stating that the current approach involves the army staying inside while 'the terrorists are outside, and the houses are destroyed.'
Channel 14 highlighted Katz's proposal to establish a permanent Jewish presence in northern Gaza as a significant moment of the tour. Katz expressed his intention to establish three Nahal outposts at sites that existed before Israel's 2005 withdrawal from Gaza. Nahal outposts are military-linked settlement groups historically used to establish new settlements before transitioning to civilian communities.
Katz justified the move as necessary for security, claiming it would bolster Israeli control and enhance the defense of nearby communities. The Gaza Strip has been severely affected by ongoing conflict since October 8, 2023, with more than 73,000 Palestinians reported killed and over 173,000 injured, according to Palestinian figures. Israeli attacks have also reportedly damaged or destroyed about 91% of the enclave's infrastructure.
